Dr Rajeshwar Dayal


Dr Rajeshwar Dayal has been working as a Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, S.N. Medical College, Agra (India) since 2003. During his tenure as Professor and Head, he has established a 102-bed department with Intensive care facilities. Both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit run at 100% occupancy.
Dr. Dayal is a gifted teacher. Over 200 postgraduate students have been trained by him. Many of these students are holding important posts in India and abroad.
His area of special interest is infectious diseases (especially tuberculosis and leprosy). His studies (including his pioneer work) on the diagnosis of leprosy are internationally acclaimed. He has served as a Visiting Professor in universities in India and abroad ( Manila- 2003, Kuala Lumpur-2006). He has over 100 publications. He has authored chapters in reputed textbooks including the Red Book of the American Academy of Paediatrics. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator of a multicentric trial evaluating the impact of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine on pneumonia, being conducted by the John Hopkins University, USA since 2020.
Dr. Dayal has been conferred Fellowships by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (FIAP) and the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India (FAMS).
He has been a speaker in ALL Congresses of the International Paediatric Association, during the past 20 years. During the period 2019-2021, he was appointed as the Co-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) on Tuberculosis and HIV by the International Paediatric Association. He has been elected to the Member of the Standing Committee, International Paediatric Association for the period 2023-2025.
He has been actively involved in the activities of the International Society of Tropical Paediatrics (ISTP) for the past 20 years. He has attended ALL ISTP Congresses since 2002. He has been elected as a Member of the Standing Committee of ISTP, consecutively, SEVEN times since 2002.
Further, he has participated in many international meetings in the Asia Pacific region. In the year 2018-2020, he was appointed as the Chairperson of the Task Force on Tuberculosis by the Asia Pacific Paediatric Association (APPA). During his tenure , he coordinated with the various National Paediatric Societies of the Asia Pacific region and encouraged them to develop their own national guidelines for the diagnosis and management of Tuberculosis.
Since year 2002, he has been consecutively elected, Nine times as Member, Standing Committee of Asian Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ASPID). He has participated as a speaker in ALL of ASPID Congresses in the last 20 years.
In recognition of his exemplary work, he was conferred the highest award of the Medical Council of India, namely the Dr. B.C Roy National Award, in 2016.
